Shelter

Have you seen this movie? My friend Val recommended it to me a couple of months ago and I watched it last month. It's an absolutely beautiful story of a young California man discovering who he is, what he wants, and how he's going to make it happen. It has nothing to do with OTT, except that the main character is gay. I just can't say enough about it. The movie is dramatic, and heartbreaking in places, but never heavy-handed in dialogue or direction.

I agree totally !!!!!! I have seen it - I've rented it a few times, but I've decided to buy it, it is so good. In fact, it is the only m/m romance in English I will recommend to anyone. The main question is Why? Why don't they make any other good m/m romance movies?? Believe me, I've watched tons, and still have a ton on my 'to watch' list, but nothing comes close and most just stink. Another good one is "Just a question of Love" but it is French and has English subtitles. It is very good, but not as good as "Shelter". If you like extremely sad endings, I hear "Between Love and Goodbye" (just out from TLA Releasing) is excellent, but I hate those kind, so I am not going to watch it. TLA has another coming called "Redwoods" that may have some potential to be good. I have another on my "to watch" list called "Trick" I was told was good, but I haven't seen it yet. However, I am putting together a list of all the movies and how good or bad I thought they were. You know, a lot of people say, what about Brokeback Mountain, well aside from the horribly sad ending, I didn't like it because I just never, ever 'felt the love' I did not believe there was real attraction, maybe bad acting or writing, but I wasn't convinced. However, in "Shelter" and in "Just a Question of Love", there is great acting, you know the characters love each other!

Anyway, what I really want to do is try to convince someone in Hollywood, or even an Indie film-maker to do some good m/m romance films. There are so many well written m/m romance novels they could even pick from! They just need two good (and of course hot) actors, and they would have a hit. I think there is a big, and growing, audience for m/m romance! It's us women who love our hunks (haha) and why settle for just one when you can have two!!

Thank-you for posting this topic, as you can tell, I quite agree with your assessment of "Shelter". Everyone should see it.

So ... never heard of the movie, but just to let you know, I ran right over to mine and my mom's Netflix account and added it immediately. I'm looking forward to watching it. :)
