Slash Backslash v2.0
As you may recall, my story Structurally Unsound was written for the Slash Backslash contest last fall. angstgoddess003 and Pastiche Pen announced today the opening of Slash Backslash 2.0, and your starfishy is honoured to be one of the judges! The link above will take you to the FF page for the contest, with the requirements and rules. As before, a C2 has been set up to retain the entries.
So get those plot bunnies fattened up! We want your boys! :)
Saturday Jackspiration: Srs Bsns
Unlike my Jackie, HCav is the totally furthest thing from "brooding". Even in "serious" poses, I swear there's a little smirk there always on his lips. Finding some srs bsns poses was a bit of a challenge.
I found some, though, and surprise! There's just nothing this guy can do to not be drop-dead gorgeous.
No smiles here...'cept the one on my face. :)
Wow, he's so young in this one, maybe he hadn't *learned* to smile yet.
Knightly consternation.
Woah. What's going on here? Angry rolling on the ground leads to angry sex...I'm just saying.
Ohai...you look like you need some help...just let me undo your belt...
This last picture is exactly how I picture Jack's hair. I know Henry's hair gets shaggy and it curls all over the place; and sometimes he has it cut very short. This is it, for me.

Jacey Thursday: Summertime
Earlier this week was the summer solstice, and the beginning of my favourite season of the year. Gardening, lush grass and green leaves, barbecues, parties with friends, sitting on restaurant patios and watching the world go by...some of my favourite things.
Before I get to the pictures, I need the Fresh Prince to set the musical tone for this post. Take a deep breath, put your feet up, have an iced tea, and enjoy the sounds of the summer I turned 16. :)
I realized when hunting up the appropriate pics for this post, that I have a shitload of "Jacey at the beach", "Jacey in the sand", "Jacey in swim trunks" pictures. I decided to go for the ones that look the most like honest-to-goodness summer fun.
And what an auspicious beginning... :)
Love the way his hair is curling up in this one, the way those of us with curls or waves do when we've gotten out of the water and let our hair air-dry. (The full-sized pic of this is HUGE)
How'd you get so much sand on yer chest, there, Jacey?
Okay, well, the set for this one is sort of fakish, but look how shiny!!
Love how relaxed he looks in this one...like he just came down your throat...pardon? I said, Like he just sailed on a boat.

Deep Dish Chapter 25 teaser
I like to support The Fictionators' Teaser Monday, but I'm holding out hope that this chapter will be posted tomorrow; which would make posting a teaser on the same day, somewhat irrelevant. :)
Kathleen continues, “I believe you need closure, Jackie. Maybe you’re not ready to do it yet, but I think it’s important – vital, even – for you to get some answers. Find out why he did it and why he didn’t tell you. Learn the guy’s name, for Pete’s sake. You deserve that. It’s the only way you’ll be able to move on.”
What she says makes sense, only...
“If I do that – talk to him and get closure – then it’ll really be over,” I admit helplessly.
“Yeah,” is her reply; and though her tone is kind, the meaning is clear: it is over.
“Or,” Ashton adds hopefully, “maybe you’ll find out that he regrets ending it with you, that he wants you back.”
I can’t even allow myself to hope that could be the case. Rather than replying to Ashton, I simply reach for my glass of water and down it in several long swallows. Setting it down, I change the subject. “You know what...it’s been a long day. I’m wiped out.”
“Of course, Jackie,” Kath replies. “It’s ten o’clock, and you’re two hours ahead.”
“Yeah, plus I slept on the couch last night, because there was a woman in my bed.”
“There is so much wrong with that sentence,” Ashton mutters.
“Sounds like a perfectly healthy response to me.” Edward grins at Jasper, extending his hand to him. “Let’s go home and check our bed for women, Kas. We might have to sleep on the couch.”

Saturday Jackspiration: The Closet
Well, we covered Jacey's closeted years so let's have a look at Jack's indiscretions too. Just my luck that these are among my favourite looks of his. The brunette is from his Dunhill London work, and the blondes are from Whatever Works, which I have on my computer but haven't watched yet.
"I'm pretending I'm straight...what do I do here? Chin to the boob?...that's a good start..." (and UNGH, the chin cleft!)
"I've never been inside such a hot...car." (We've got hot "cars" too, Jackie, if you're looking)
"::sigh:: I'm on a boat, it's a romantic night, and I have fluffy blonde hair blowing in my face. Maybe she'll fall asleep." (More wine and turkey?)
"If I lift just a bit she'll flip out the window and then I'll go pick up Jacey and then..." (and Starfish will take it from there)
"Is the ponytail supposed to be right on top of her head? It's so distracting...focus on her eyes...can't...look...away..." (Neither can we - let this be a lesson to us all)
"This isn't looking good...maybe if that guy over my shoulder keeps yelling she'll get distracted and I can make a break for it." (We could yell too, if you like)
"Well, at least the ponytail's gone - I guess that's something." (Remember soft brown hair and lush lips, Jackie?)
"And now her mother?? That's it - sorry, women, it's time you knew the truth. I'm in love with a boy named Jacey..." (Yay! Suck it, bitch!)

Jacey Thursday: Merely a Formality
I love men in suits. Casual or ultra-formal, doesn't matter to me. I love a suit and tie; and what a long way men's suits have come in my lifetime, thanks to men like Giorgio Armani and Hugo Boss.
This week's post is a classic chicken-or-egg dilemma: do the clothes make the man or does the man make the clothes?
This is non-traditional but I *love* it, right down to the daisy on his lapel. How awesome for, say, a yacht club wedding.
Not every man would agree to wear this, but the suit is cut so well that it looks fantastic on. Love the scarf-as-ascot. Our boy looks great with his hair pulled back, too. :)
GAH. Here come the men in black...holy hanna, this is gorgeous.
I'm so glad men's formal vests are back - and not in that awful 70s 3-piece style, but as a replacement for the suit jacket. This looks amazing and so classic. I know I protested loudly when J cut his hair, but pictures like this one eased the pain somewhat. ;)
Pardon the superfluous individual in the next two. It's just...this is the Jacey I fell in love with.
(Pics are a couple of years old, but does anyone think that woman might be Camilla Belle with extensions? Who else has eyebrows like that??)
Finally, it's a close-up and so there's not much of the whole getup included, but the cufflinks *do* seem to indicate a previous state of more formal dress...
This photo also won today's unofficial Twitter poll to be the new Jacey pic for the DD slideshow, above.

Saturday Jackspiration: The Inaugural Post
I think it's time for a new weekly feature on the Big Blog of Starfish. I've heard rumblings that, with things as they are in Deep Dish the last few weeks, Jacey Thursday has waned a bit in popularity. I understand. The wounds are too fresh.
It occurred to me recently that, despite the story really being about Jack, he doesn't have his own feature. This seems like an excellent time to remedy that.
Therefore, I am pleased to present the inaugural Saturday Jackspiration post! I don't have a series of themes figured out yet, so I'm going to begin with the pictures that are the most "Jack" to me.
Jack Charles - classy, dapper, reserved, and fucking gorgeous.
I love this picture because of the topcoat - I don't know why topcoats are so appealing to me, but Jack definitely wears one to work in the cooler months. :)
Ohai, Jack with a leather jacket! GUH.
An animated gif, I believe from his Dunhill London ads?
And finally...the spontaneous orgasm shot. Mad props to @mycrookedsmile on Twitter for sending me this a few days ago.

Jacey Thursday: Starfishy's Picks
The last six days have comprised a total kick-you-in-the-crotch, spit-on-your-neck sort of week. Nothing related to the fanfic world, in fact; just some real-life work fuckery. So...I'm going to indulge and just roll around in my favourite Jacey pictures.
I admit I can't choose an absolute favourite picture of Jacey; because as I opened each of these pics in its own tab in Photobucket and began to click through the list, I kept saying, "That one's my favourite. No...that one's my favourite. Wait...that one!" So it's more or less hopeless. But this is a sampling of the Jacey pics that make me tinglyhappy in my lady places.
The short hair in these ones...I protested strenuously when I first realized he'd cut his gorgeous hair off, but mmm-huhhhhhh, these are good.
So adorable in this one.
I'm unable to explain why I love this one so much...my fingers are too busy reaching out to pinch those cheeks...
Old-school Jacey; you may remember that this is the pic from which Jacey Dawes was conceived.
I love, love, love these pics - they are sweet and vulnerable and sexy at the same time. I think these are my three favourites...ish. :)

Jacey Thursday: Lightening the Mood
It hasn't been an easy week for the starfish, the boys in the story or my readers. Are you game for a laugh?
Nice hair, Breck Girl! And "European carry-all".
Uh, someone been attending the Lindsay Lohan school of pants-free living?
This is really not flattering. Dorky glasses can be smexy. These, on the other hand, are one piece of tape away from tragic.
Excuse me, Professor Elthalion, I'd like to discuss my mark for the oral exam...
Can you dress with all the colours of the wind? Can you dress with alll the colours ooooffff the wiiiiiiiiiind?

City and Colour in Deep Dish
City and Colour has been my major musical inspiration in Deep Dish, and the recently posted chapters 19 through 22 are no exception.
